Introduction
Kudremukh trek is the most popular trek in Karnataka. It is situated at the height of 6207 ft which is said to be the third highest peak in Karnataka, in the national reserve forest. It lies in the center of western ghats. kudremukh is in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka which is around 280 km from Bangalore. you will be traversing through the dense forest, small streams, and the green meadows as you climb the mountains and reach the horse face peak. The view from the top is incredible. The rolling down of grasslands on one another, the misty valley, and the forests are a breathtaking view. it is no less than a green carpet how far your eyes see.
Kudremukh trek is 96 km from the Chikmagalur district, witnessing the national reserve forest which is in an area of 600 sq km and the second largest in western ghat and is a wildlife protected area, as you can spot deer, peacocks, even leopards, and many reptiles. It is a home for flora and fauna which will show you the best of nature. The trek to the peak and back is 22 km which takes a whole day to complete. Make sure to return by 6 in the evening.
Kudremukh Trek 2022
The meaning of kudremukh in Kannada is the horse’s face. The peak resembles the horse’s face which gives it the name kudremukh peak. You will be witnessing the horse face peak after an hour of trekking when escaping from the forest. Kudremukh peak is the third largest after mullayanagiri and baba budangri.
you will be picked up from Bangalore from four different parts of the city and you will be driven to the Chikmagalur district in the base camp of kudremukh trek. it will be an overnight journey and by the sunrise, you will be settled in camps and having breakfast. The trek starts from the forest office. As soon as you start the trek you will be entering the Shola forest.
TREKKING IN THE SHOLA FOREST
This is the only way to reach the kudremukh peak while crossing the shola forest. It will be a thriller as the first part of the trek is to cross the Shola forest. When you enter the shola forest you can hear the sound of somawathi falls, if you return from the trek early you can visit the fall. Continuing trekking to the forest You can witness many wildlife animals and species like deer, leopard, lion-tailed macaque, giant squirrel, and many others.
The small streams are so fascinating. You can find them every few minutes, the water is fresh and you can fill your water bottles with them. your shoes can get wet while crossing them so be prepared for that. Also, these water streams are slippery to cross over so if you have a pole it will help you, but these rocks on which water keeps flowing are really slippery.
THE ROLLING HILLS
after escaping out of shola. The grasslands make their way to welcome you in the rolling meadows and the misty valleys. The trek will not be easy as it is gradually steep in the last section of the trek. The view of the valley will be more visible because you are elevating more in these meadows. The view will be mesmerizing and give you pleasant vibes. The rolling down the hill is much of a reward for your eyes which are looking for the spectacular 270-degree view from the top of the world.
while returning make sure you reach the base camp before 6 pm it is the forest office instructions. settle down in your camps or guest house and enjoy the dinner. singing beside the bonfire. You can take a bath during your homestay for the night. sleep tight because the next morning you will be going to the nearby waterfall. have fun and enjoy breakfast. by 2 pm you will leave for Bangalore from this outstanding weekend.
TIPS
- You must wear good trekking shoes as the hike is steep and you have to traverse small streams.
- Also, carry a pole or found one in the jungle. only 50 people get permission for the day so reach the forest office as soon as possible in the morning.
- You can perform this trek any time of the year.
